Vol. 254 No. 14

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Armoured Car Repairs.

119.

asked the Minister for Defence the estimated cost of repairing the brakes, traffic indicators and tyres of the armoured car "Slievenamon."

The cost of replacing the tyres and tubes and of installing traffic indicators and a satisfactory braking system on the armoured car "Slievenamon", so that it could be driven on public roads, would be £1,500 approximately. If, however, its use were to be confined to taking part in military parades the installation of a new braking system at an estimated cost of £1,300 could possibly be dispensed with but, in that case it would be necessary to hire equipment for the transport of the vehicle to the scene of the parade on each occasion of use.

Does the Minister intend to take any steps to make this vehicle available to the cavalry section of the Army?

For what purpose?

For the purpose of taking part in military parades.

It would amount to unnecessary cost in our opinion.

To hire a yoke to transport it even? We are rating it very highly.
