Vol. 254 No. 14

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilworth Camp Refugees.

121.

asked the Minister for Defence (a) the number of refugees at present in Kilworth Camp, Fermoy, County Cork, (b) the number of personnel engaged in attending them and (c) the average weekly cost of servicing the camp for the refugees.

(a) the number of refugees in Kilworth Camp as of Monday, 21st June, was 28; (b) 24 military personnel, including four members of the Army Nursing Service, are engaged in attending them; (c) the average weekly cost incurred by my Department in servicing the centre in the camp for the refugees is of the order of £150.

Does that include the cost of the Army personnel who are looking after the refugees there?

I believe it does.

If it does, is the Minister telling us that the entire amount of payment given to the Army personnel—24 of them— and to the four nurses, and the food, only costs £150 a week.

I will probably have to correct myself.

I think the Minister will. I think the Minister might rephrase the answer.

The total cost of the provisions, et cetera, for the refugees amounts to £150 a week.

That does not include the total cost.

It is given as a total for provisions, et cetera.
