Vol. 254 No. 14

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit.

47.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a person in Dublin (details supplied) has been deprived of unemployment benefit.

A statutory condition for the receipt of unemployment benefit is that not fewer than 26 employment contributions be paid or credited in respect of the claimant during the governing contribution year. When the person referred to made his current claim to unemployment benefit certain contributions due by his former employer in respect of him had not been paid, and Departmental action to secure their payment was immediately taken. The arrears of contributions have been collected and the claim to unemployment benefit has now been allowed from the date of claim. Payment of the arrears of benefit due is being made, less the amount of the unemployment assistance paid to the claimant in the interim.

Not having heard the first part of the reply, can I take it that everything is now in order?

The Deputy may.
