Vol. 254 No. 14

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Bacon Quota.

98.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if, on the basis of Ireland's accession to the EEC, he will state what changes he envisages in the current Irish bacon quota of 28,180 tons out of the total UK imports of 385,000 tons in the context of the quota of 285,000 tons allocated to Denmark and 46,420 tons allocated to Poland.

It is envisaged that on accession to the EEC this quantitative restriction on trade in bacon will be abolished from the beginning of the transitional period. In the EEC a levy system applies to imports of pigmeat from third countries.
