Vol. 255 No. 2

Business of Dáil.

A Cheann Comhairle, on a point of order. On 24th June a question was submitted and answered, Question No. 3, asking the Taoiseach the number of times within the past two and a half years he has got complaints in writing containing allegations against members of the present Government and asking for details. A question was put down for today in the following terms:

To ask the Taoiseach if he will institute a sworn inquiry into the allegations in a signed statement by Mr. Christopher Tierney that, in connection with sub-post mastership at Janesboro, County Limerick, he was told by Mr. Desmond O'Malley, now Minister for Justice, that whoever would get this post would give a subscription of a year's salary, viz. £300, and that he subsequently paid Mr. O'Malley £50 on foot of this statement by Mr. O'Malley.

I am sorry, Deputy, but this is totally irregular.

I am seeking a ruling.

The Deputy has already received the Ceann Comhairle's decision and that decision cannot be debated.

I want to state that the grounds on which this was ruled out of order today were that this question today was a repeat of the other question. I think you will agree that it is in no way a repeat of the other question.

The rules of the House apply to the Deputy as they do to every other Deputy and this is irregular and totally out of order.

Is the Ceann Comhairle saying that this question is a repeat of a totally different question?

The Deputy may not discuss the Chair's ruling. If he wishes to discuss the matter he can call to me and I will discuss it with him. It cannot be bandied around in the House in this fashion.

I am entitled to ask the grounds on which you state it is a repeat.

The Deputy is not so entitled. The Deputy is being disorderly.

The Deputy's whiter than white reputation is taking a right hammering.

I want to know——

This is against all the rules of procedure in the House.

It is disgusting.

The Deputy is a whited sepulchre.

I simply want to know——

The Deputy has already been informed. He must resume his seat.

His whiter than white reputation is gone.

This is totally disorderly and totally irregular.

His reputation is finished.

The Chair is disorderly because it says something is a repeat which is not a repeat. This is an attempt to suppress a matter that should be discussed.

Now we see the real Deputy.

There is no attempt to suppress anything.

I do not understand why the ills of a disappointed Fianna Fáil tout should take up the time of this House.

He is a Coughlan tout, if you want to know.
