Vol. 255 No. 2

Local Government (Rateability of Rents) (Abolition) Bill, 1971: Committee and Final Stages.

Section 1 agreed to.
SECTION 2.
Question proposed: "That section 2 stand part of the Bill."

This, I take it, is the existing reduction of one-tenth this year?

This is to validate in respect of the county health districts the reduction in the liability of persons subject to half-rent rating in respect of the year 1970-71. As the Deputy knows, the previous legislation extended from 1960 to 1970 and we are now in 1971. We did circularise the local authorities telling them to continue the reduction of the half-rent by a half, which in effect is one-quarter rent, for the year 1970-71 and we are now validating that move.
