Vol. 255 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Postal Deliveries.

78.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why the latest time for posting in Camolin, County Wexford, was changed from 8.45 p.m. to 5.50 p.m.; and if the latest time for posting will now be changed back to 8.45 p.m. to enable people to answer letters on the day they receive them and to facilitate people from rural areas who must travel to Camolin to post their letters.

The latest time for posting at Camolin and other post offices in the Wexford and East Wicklow areas has been advanced in connection with the introduction of a night mail train service between Wexford and Dublin the effect of which has been an overall improvement in the postal service to these areas. Before the changes were made they were discussed with representative organisations in the major centres affected and were accepted by them. It would not be practicable to make a later despatch from Camolin which would connect with the new train service.
