Vol. 255 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry School Amenities.

15.

asked the Minister for Education if it is intended to have the playgrounds in both Ballyhearney and Corabeg national schools, Valentia Island, County Kerry, covered with tarmacadam; and, if so, when.

16.

asked the Minister for Education if it is intended to have flush toilets, heating and lighting installed in Ballyhearney and Corabeg national schools, Valentia, County Kerry; and, if so, whether the work on both schools will be completed during the holiday period.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Question Nos. 15 and 16 together.

A grant has been sanctioned for the replacement of the three existing schools at Valentia by a new central schools at Ballyhearney. In view of this I am satisfied that the provision of tarmacadam playground surfaces at Ballyhearney and Corabeg national schools would not be warranted.

My Department is in communication with the manager regarding the toilet facilities and other works necessary to keep these schools in a serviceable condition pending the erection of the new central school. It will be my endeavour to see to it that the arrangements for the building of the central school are pushed ahead as quickly as possible.
