Vol. 255 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Social Security Systems.

21.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare by what amount this country's social service payments must increase to meet the minimum payable in the EEC.

As I have previously pointed out, while there is a broad general similarity between the social security systems of the existing member countries of the EEC, rates of benefits and conditions of eligibility differ from one country to another. Accordingly, it is not correct to assume that our rates would have to be altered on accession to the EEC.

What is the minimum payable in the EEC? Surely it should be possible to give us some figures on the minimum payable in the EEC? We know they vary from country to country.

We will put the question down next week.

I am afraid I have not got that information.

If I have any information, I shall write to the Deputy.
