Vol. 255 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Marlborough House.

30.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in closing Marlborough House, Dublin.

The arrangements for the opening of the new preventive school at Finglas will not be completed until the coming autumn. In the meantime, it will be necessary to retain Marlborough House in use.

Is the building in Finglas ready?

It will be opened in the autumn.

Is the building ready at the moment?

The Deputy will appreciate there is more to opening a preventive centre than just having the building ready. The question of staffing and the actual management of the institute arises as well.

Is it not possible that a satisfactory arrangement in relation to staffing could have been reached before now since the opening was foreseeable?

I can assure the Deputy that very diligent and exhaustive inquiries and negotiations have been going on with the people concerned with the management and administration of this in the last few months.

What difficulties have arisen?

No difficulties caused by the Department, I can assure the Deputy.
