Vol. 255 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Prices.

33.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that increases operative since 1st May in the price paid for liquid milk to farmers in the Dublin and Cork liquid milk areas, have not been followed, as was customary in the past, on a pro rata basis by those buying milk for liquid consumption outside those areas; and if the reasons for this will be investigated.

I understand that the position is as stated by the Deputy but I have no power to fix producer prices for liquid milk in any area outside of the Dublin and Cork areas. The second part of the question does not, therefore, arise.

Cannot the Minister exercise any influence in this matter?

If the Deputy would like to suggest in what way I could exercise influence I should like to hear it.

By making contact with the representatives of the various bodies.

A meeting between the Department and the NFA is being arranged in connection with this and other allied matters.
