Vol. 255 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Houses.

78.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the fact that a suitable site has now been agreed upon, he will state the reasons for the delay in building the houses at Rosegreen, Cashel, County Tipperary.

A housing site at Rosegreen is included in a compulsory purchase order which was made by Tipperary South Riding County Council and submitted to me for confirmation. I expect to determine the order as respects this site shortly.

79.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he intends to sanction the houses for Grangemockler, County Tipperary.

All proposals for this scheme have been sanctioned.

80.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of County Tipperary the up-to-date position of the following schemes: (1) Marlfield, Clonmel, (2) Cashel, (3) Cappawhite, (4) Cahir, (5) Bansha, (6) Clogheen, (7) Redmondstown, Clonmel, (8) Mullinahone, (9) Fethard, (10) Clerihen, Clonmel, (11) Grangemockler, and (12) Kilmacomma, Clonmel.

Work is in progress on the schemes at Fethard and Kilmacomma. I have approved the acceptance of tenders and the raising of loans for the schemes at Redmondstown and Grangemockler. I have sanctioned the acceptance of a tender for the scheme at Cappawhite and a proposal to raise a loan for this scheme is under consideration in my Department. I have asked the county council to revise the house plans and estimate of cost for the scheme at Ballyclerihan. I understand that plans are being prepared locally for the schemes at Cashel and Cahir. I have not received any proposals for schemes at Marlfield, Bansha, Clogheen or Mullinahone.

81.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent need for the provision of houses at Tipperary town; what steps are being taken to deal with the matter; and if the situation can best be met by a suitable low cost housing scheme.

I am aware of the need for houses in Tipperary town. A proposal to accept a tender for a scheme of 14 dwellings in the town has been approved by me. The housing authority is at present considering the possibility of having a further scheme of approximately 70 dwellings provided under the low cost housing project.
