Vol. 255 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Refuse Dump Maintenance.

90.

asked the Minister for Local Government the substance of his request to local authorities about the reasonable maintenance of refuse dumps; and if he will give details of the up-to-date code which he envisages should be observed in this matter.

The letter which issued from my Department on 2nd instant requested sanitary authorities to review their dumping arrangements in order to ensure that public refuse dumps are always properly maintained so as not to give rise to any nuisance. They were also asked, when seeking new sites for dumps, to bear in mind the advantages to be obtained from the provision of large central dumps and to consider the provision in convenient locations of large transportable receptacles for the temporary deposit of rubbish. They were also requested to clear up any dumped material currently lying in unauthorised places.
