Vol. 255 No. 11

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 1, 2, 28, 29, 10 and 30.

On the Order of Business, will the Taoiseach say why the Redundancy Payments Bill is not included in today's Order of Business although it was agreed at the Whips' meeting that it would be?

The Minister for Social Welfare asked that it should not be on the Order Paper because he is unavoidably absent this afternoon. He will be here tomorrow and it will appear tomorrow.

Would the Taoiseach not be able to say when it is proposed to introduce a Bill to deal with continental weddings? The Tánaiste is beside him and he promised me that he would introduce it before the end of this session.

The Lourdes marriages?

I do not think I can introduce it before the end of the session.

In view of the fact that it has been under consideration by the Government for about ten years would he not agree that it is about time it was introduced?

I may have to separate the Bill into two Bills, with the permission of the Government.

The Government have been dealing with other matters which are not so important to other people and surely they could at least put this Bill on the Order Paper and give some hope to these people?

Could the Taoiseach say when the legislation in relation to voting procedures in creameries is likely to be introduced? I refer to Deputy Clinton's question.

What is Deputy Clinton's question?

In relation to rationalisation of the creamery industry. Could the Taoiseach say when the Minister for Industry and Commerce is likely to introduce the promised legislation?

I could not.

Could the Tánaiste let me have some definite answer to the question that I have asked? He did promise three months ago that he would introduce the Bill before the end of this session.

Because I thought I was at the point of getting agreement between the various interests. I have not been able to get agreement.

We cannot discuss this now.

I am aware of that but in view of the fact that the Bill was introduced ten years ago and not proceeded with and that it has been promised for the end of this session, surely the Tánaiste should be able to give us at least some idea of when he proposes to introduce it? May I take it that it will be introduced early in the next session, if there is a next session?

If I can get agreement.
