Vol. 255 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Simultaneous Translation System.

27.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate the present position regarding the proposal to introduce a system of simultaneous translation from English to Irish, and vice versa, in the Houses of the Oireachtas.

A detailed plan for a simultaneous translation system is at present under consideration by the Dáil Committee on Procedure and Privileges.

Is the Minister aware that the Oireachtas Reporting Staff are very much understaffed and, in view of that, will that be taken into consideration before any change is made?

I do not think that is relevant.

It may not be relevant now but it will be later on——

Can the Minister indicate what this will cost?

Sin ceist eile.

Níl fhios aige.

Could the Minister indicate when the committee are likely to give a decision on this matter?

I do not know when a decision is likely to be given but I understood the matter is on the agenda for a meeting to take place tomorrow.
