Vol. 256 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Rural Electrification.

21.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when work will start on the ESB extension to cater for the areas of Rahoon, Furbo, Spiddal and Inverin, County Galway.

I am informed by the ESB that the areas Rahoon, Furbo and Spiddal are in the Spiddal rural area and that Inverin is in the Carraroe rural area. Both areas have been previously developed under the rural electrification planned post-development scheme. In accordance with the current plans for the completion of the rural electrification programme before 1975, advertisements will be published in the local papers inviting unsupplied residents in the Spiddal rural area to apply for connection. Those who apply for supply and accept the terms quoted will be supplied with the minimum of delay. The board hope to have these advertisements published within the next year.

On completion of the Spiddal rural area, the same procedure will be applied to the Carraroe rural area.

The economy of this area is bound up with tourism. Can the Minister pinpoint a date?

I said next year. It is now November and that is a reasonably short time.
