asked the Minister for Local Government what plans his Department have to prevent the increasing severity of air pollution in the Dublin city area.

263.

asked the Minister for Local Government what plans his Department have to prevent the increasing severity of pollution in Dublin bay, the river Liffey and the river Tolka.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 262 and 263 together.

I would refer the Deputy to my Estimates speech on the 27th May last (columns 451 to 459, Volume 254 of the Dáil Debates) and to my replies to Questions Nos. 87, 88 and 89 on the 5th August last, in which I outlined the various steps being taken by me and by the local authorities concerned to deal with the air and water pollution problems in the Dublin area.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the smoke pollution of Dublin city is twice that of London?

It is very bad.

The steps being taken to deal with the problem are inadequate.
