Vol. 256 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Redundancies in Dublin Firm.

15.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of redundancies which have recently occurred in a Dublin firm (details supplied); the cause of the redundancies; and if there is any prospect of the workers being re-employed eventually by the firm.

Fifty workers have been made redundant in this firm, the ownership of which has recently changed. The firm has informed me that the redundancies are due to a reorganisation which involved transferring some processing work from Dublin to the firm's headquarters in the country. I am also aware of a fall in the demand for the products made by the firm. There are no prospects at present that any of the workers dismissed on redundancy will be re-employed by the firm. Officers of the National Manpower Service will interview the workers and endeavour to find them other jobs.
