Vol. 256 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Living.

5.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state by how many points the cost of living has risen since May, 1970.

Between mid-May, 1970, and mid-August, 1971, the consumer price index, with base mid-November, 1968, as 100, rose from 113.9 to 126.0 or by 12.1 points.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary agree that in the three years ended 1971 the consumer price index will have risen nine times as fast as in the three years ending 1961?

No, I would not agree at all because I do not have those figures before me.

If the Parliamentary Secretary looks at the figures he will find out that it has.
