Vol. 256 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trade Statistics.

3.

andMr. Donegan asked the Taoiseach the value of this country's imports and exports for 1960 and for 1970 stated for individual product groups; that is to say (a) manufactured goods, (b) food and drink, (c) live animals, (d) raw materials and (e) other exports and re-exports, in respect of (a) all markets, (b) Britain and Northern Ireland, (c) North America, (d) six EEC countries, (e) EFTA (excluding Britain) and (f) other markets.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the information requested in so far as it is readily available. Figures for some of the categories are not readily available in respect of 1960 because of a change in the commodity classification in 1963. Data in respect of the year 1963 are also shown in the statement for comparative purposes.

Following is the statement:

NOTE: The 1960 and 1963 figures exclude the external trade of Shannon Free Airport, but include certain trade crossing the Customs-free area and the r emainder of the State. The 1970 figures include the trade of Shannon, which is not available by commodity group but is included in category (e) of the table.
