Vol. 256 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Plot Sales.

22.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will introduce the necessary legislation to obviate the need for obtaining the consent of the Land Commission to sales of plots of one acre or less.

I imagine that the Deputy is principally concerned with applications in connection with building sites. As I have pointed out on previous occasions, the procedure for obtaining consent to the subdivision of holdings for the provision of such sites is quite straightforward and applications are dealt with promptly.

It is not only the granting of consent which is involved—the apportionment of annuity and possible redemption of part also fall to be arranged—and the Land Commission have to be approached on this anyway.

I would point out that these dealings must be recorded accurately on the Land Commission records and also be registered in Land Registry. It is as well to have details straight before the final deeds are executed. As the Deputy is aware, clear site title is fundamental.

It normally takes no more than a week or ten days to process an application and issue the consent. I am, nevertheless, arranging to have the entire matter considered in the context of whatever legislation may prove necessary in the future.
