Vol. 256 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Division and Allotment.

24.

asked the Minister for Lands the number of acres in the possession of the Land Commission for the purpose of division and allotment to farmers with uneconomic holdings; and when such lands will be divided and allotted.

The area of arable land in the possession of the Land Commission as at 31st March, 1971, was 55,800 acres. It is not feasible to indicate when this area will have been disposed of but the lands will be used for ordinary land settlement purposes and the claims of all applicants will be thoroughly assessed before allocation takes place. Over the past five years, average annual intake has been 30,700 acres and allocation 28,100 acres.
