Vol. 256 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Wales Bridge.

16.

asked the Minister for Transport and power if he is aware of the further statement by British Rail that the Britannia Bridge over the Menai Straits in North Wales will not now be reopened until the new year; and if he will make urgent representations to the company concerning the prolonged delay.

I am aware that the Menai Bridge is not now due to re-open until early in 1972.

My Department and Board Fáilte have kept in close touch with British Rail about the delay in re-opening the bridge. British Rail, apart from their own natural anxiety to resume normal operating at the earliest possible moment, are fully aware of our concern in the matter.

Was serious damage done during the second fire?

No, not serious.
