asked the Minister for Finance if he will furnish details, in the form of a reply to a Parliamentary Question of 30th November, 1965, of the travelling and subsistence allowances payable to (a) engineers, (b) supervisory workers and (c) unestablished employees, employed by the Office of Public Works.

Employees engaged on official business away from their headquarters may be paid their actual expenses of travelling and subsistence allowance within scales authorised from time to time and subject to certain other requirements.

As regards travelling expenses, public transport rates are payable where there is a convenient service available. Otherwise motor mileage rates are payable to employees who have been authorised to use their private cars on official business.

Reduced rates are payable from the 8th to the 28th night of a visit of inspection or the first fourteen nights of a temporary transfer, where a stay of more than fourteen nights is foreseen.

Detention rate is payable for the second 28 nights of a visit of inspection and the second fourteen nights of a temporary transfer.

Industrial Employees under the Grade of Foreman.

1.76 a night for 3 nights

For an absence extending over the dinner interval £0.38

After the 28th night “Country money” of £6 a week is payable.Where it is foreseen that a temporary transfer will be of longer duration than 28 days, country money is paid from the start in lieu of industrial subsistence rates.

1.20 a night for 4th to 14th

0.89 a night for 15th to the 28th

For an absence after dinner extending beyond the limits imposed by the Conditions of Employment Act (5 hours) or the Road Traffic Act (5½ hours) whichever is appropriate £0.33
