Dangerous Drugs Bill, 1971: First Stage.

I move:

That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to make further and better provision to control the distribution and manufacture of certain drugs and to provide for related matters.

Is the Bill being opposed?

This is a Bill to provide——

Under Standing Order 89 (2) the debate is adjourned until the next day on which Private Members' Business is taken. The Deputy will get an opportunity in Private Members' time to discuss his Bill. It cannot be discussed at this stage. It would not be in order to discuss it at this stage and Deputy Dr. Byrne is fully aware of that. He has been informed of the position.

Agreed and ordered accordingly.

Legislation is being drafted at this moment which is more or less in parallel with the Bill. The Bill, therefore, is unnecessary.

In other words, Government from this side of the House again. We had to show them how to do it.

I announced that the legislation was being prepared two or three weeks ago.

We were told that in 1968.
