Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

148.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he received a communication dated 30th July, 1971, from Laois County Council concerning a proposed group water supply scheme to serve the area of Ballykanee, Clonaslee, County Laois; if to date the county council have received no reply; if he will inquire into the matter and explain the failure to reply; and what urgent action he now proposes to take to deal with the matter.

The letter referred to was received. It simply notified my Department that there was a possibility of formulating a group water supply scheme to serve the area and requested that an inspector should call to the area and on the council's liaison officer. The inspector called on the liaison officer as requested, discussed the matter and left an explanatory memorandum and survey sheets with him for completion by the group. The completed survey sheets have not yet been received in my Department and until this is done, no progress can be made. The county council were informed of the position last week.

149.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Gurteen, Dunmore, County Galway.

A design for this scheme, which will serve 44 houses, is being prepared by the ESB.

150.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Cartymore, Athenry, County Galway.

No proposal for a group water supply scheme at Cartymore, Athenry, is before my Department.

151.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Cahernashilleery, Turloughmore, County Galway.

A suitable source for this scheme has not yet been located.

152.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Ballyglass, Turloughmore, County Galway.

153.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Lackaghmore, Turloughmore, County Galway.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 152 and 153 together. My Department has received no proposals for group water supply schemes at Ballyglass or Lackaghmore. The proposed Ballybrone group scheme would serve 55 houses including some cottages at Ballyglass and Lackaghmore. A suitable source for that scheme has not yet been located.

154.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Grange, Turloughmore, County Galway.

My Department is in correspondence with Galway County Council regarding the design which has been prepared for this scheme. If the council have no objection to the design, the group will be advised to seek quotations for the necessary materials, et cetera, to enable firm costings to be determined.

Question No. 155 postponed.

156.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will be in a position to sanction the minor water scheme at Ballydasoon, County Waterford.

I have recently sanctioned this scheme.

157.

asked the Minister for Local Government when work will commence on the Knockcahill, Rathcoole, County Cork, group water scheme.

A grant of £480 has been allocated in respect of the eight houses in this scheme. I understand that the group have sought tenders for carrying out the work and when a contract is entered into the scheme can proceed.

158.

asked the Minister for Local Government when work will commence on the Dooneen group water scheme at Millstreet, County Cork.

The design of this scheme has been approved, subject to the use of increased pipe sizes to provide for further development in the area. The additional cost involved in complying with that requirement is being examined in my Department, before an approach is made to Cork County Council to make a special contribution. It is not possible, at this stage, to indicate when work will commence on the scheme.

159.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in regard to the Curragh group water scheme Kilmurray, County Cork.

Arrangements are being made to carry out quality and yield tests on the proposed source for this scheme, which will serve five cottages. If these prove satisfactory the group will be advised to engage an engineer to prepare a design for the scheme.

160.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in regard to Knockanemore group water scheme, Ovens, County Cork.

A design for this scheme, which will serve 30 houses by way of an extension of the county council mains, has been approved, subject to the use of increased pipe sizes to enable it to be integrated into the regional network. The question of a contribution from the county council to meet the increased cost involved is being considered in my Department.

161.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department has received the plans and proposals regarding the Monegall/ Dunkerrin group water supply scheme, County Offaly; if these plans and proposals have been approved by his Department; if so, on what date they were approved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The design for this scheme, to serve 162 houses, has been examined in my Department. Copies were forwarded to Offaly and Tipperary (NR) County Councils on 31st May and 1st June, 1971, respectively, to confirm their formal acceptance of the design. On 24th August, 1971, Tipperary (NR) County Council replied that the design, in so far as their area was concerned, was acceptable. Offaly County Council have not, as yet, formally replied to the letter of 31st May. I understand, however, that as the result of recent discussions between technical officers of my Department and the county council some amendments involving increased pipe sizes were agreed and the design, in so far as Offaly is concerned, was amended accordingly. Formal confirmation is still awaited from the council. In the meantime the group are seeking tenders for the carrying out of the work so that firm costings may be determined.

162.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he hopes to approve of the revised contract documents for the sewerage scheme at Roseberry Commons, Droichead Nua, County Kildare, submitted to his Department on 7th May, 1971.

I hope to convey my decision to the local authority on this scheme shortly.
