Vol. 257 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

140.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that there is dissatisfaction in County Galway regarding group water schemes because of the shortage of local government personnel to help prospective groups.

I am not so aware. The inspectorate assigned to group water supply schemes in all areas is constantly under review in my Department.

The volume of work under the schemes has, however, been increasing to an extent that it has been necessary to hold a competition with a view to recruiting additional inspectors. Due regard will be had to the position in County Galway when any extra inspectors recruited are being assigned.

141.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the group water scheme at Castle Ellen, Athenry, County Galway.

The ESB are preparing a design for this group on the basis of 27 houses in the area participating in the scheme.

142.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department have any plans for a group water scheme at Liss, Headford, County Galway; and, if so, if he will state the position in the matter.

There has been no change in the position since my reply to the Deputy's Question No. 103 on 19th May, 1971.

143.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is proposed to commence work on Barrel's Cross group water scheme, Kinsale, County Cork.

My Department is in communication with Cork County Council about the suitability of the source proposed for this scheme. At this stage it is not possible to state when work will commence.

144.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the amount allocated to Waterford County Council in the present year for public water supply schemes; the amount expended from this allocation to-date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

145.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the amount allocated to Waterford County Council in the present year for public sewerage schemes; the amount expended from this allocation to-date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 144 and 145 together.

Allocations made to date to Waterford County Council in respect of public water supply and sewerage schemes in the current financial year amount to £53,126. Expenditure to date is £33,126.

No specific division is made in the allocation as between water and sewerage schemes.
