Vol. 257 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Intermediate French Examination.

49.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has noted the representations of teaching interests who have declared dissatisfaction with the present French examination structure at intermediate level; whether, in view of the unsuitability of the present structure in regard to the oral bias in the curriculum, he will consider reviewing the examination procedure.

I have noted the representations of certain teaching interests who desire to see a greater emphasis on oral work in the intermediate certificate examination in French.

I have to consider those representations against the background of the syllabus leading to this examination, a syllabus which was prepared by a committee representative of all teaching interests.

I am arranging to have the representations in question examined by the committee which is considering the intermediate certificate examination as a whole.
