Vol. 257 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bord na Móna Superannuation Scheme.

44.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state further to his reply to a parliamentary question of 30th November, 1971 (a) the date on which Bord na Móna were informed of the representations made by the trade unions on 30th June, 1971, (b) the date and nature of the board's reply, (c) the date on which detailed costings of amendments were ordered, (d) the amendments in respect of which costings were sought and (e) the date on which details of the costings were received by (i) Bord na Móna and (ii) his Department.

The replies to the Deputy's queries are as follows:

(a) 16th July, 1971;

(b) Bord na Móna are awaiting information from the actuary before replying;

(c) 12th August, 1971 and 10th September, 1971;

(d) Actuarial costings were requested in connection with the principal amendments sought by the Bord na Móna group of unions at their discussions with me on 30th June, 1971, and particularly that Bord na Móna should pay the full cost of service by workers before introduction of the superannuation scheme in 1963;

(e) Actuarial costings have not yet been received by Bord na Móna or my Department.

I thank the Minister but would he not agree that the delay in dealing with this relatively simple matter is ridiculous and is he not aware that his predecessor could have avoided all this trouble if he had allowed the motion that was put down in my name when the scheme was introduced in 1963?

I agree with the Deputy that there has been a ridiculous delay but I am pursuing this actively and hope to have it remedied within a few weeks.

In this year?
