Vol. 257 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Drainage.

81.

asked the Minister for Finance if there are any plans for the drainage of the Islands River, Williamstown and Ballymoe, County Galway; and, if so, what stage has been reached towards implementing them.

I would refer the Deputy to the statement which I made to the Dáil in connection with arterial drainage policy on 17th November, 1971, when introducing the Vote for Public Works and Buildings for the current financial year.

Further progress with proposals for arterial drainage schemes in a number of catchments including that of which the Islands River is part must await the results of the costs/benefit study which is now being undertaken.

That means there will be less drainage done than there previously was.

That does not follow. We have to get the results of the costs/ benefit study first.

That is what it means anyway.
