Vol. 257 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Schools.

32.

asked the Minister for Education the number of first year post-primary places which will be available in Cork city schools in September, 1972.

The first year intake into Cork city post-primary schools last September was just over 3,000 pupils. The intake next September is expected to be slightly higher but the increase will not be such as to create any serious accommodation problem. It is expected that work in the building of new post-primary schools in Mayfield and Ashton will commence next August. Immediate needs will continue to be met by the provision of pre-fabricated classrooms.

33.

asked the Minister for Education the number of (a) boys and (b) girls in Cork city primary schools at present in each of the following grades: sixth year, fifth year and fourth year.

The information requested by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement which with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.
