Vol. 257 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Boneless Beef Exports.

46.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the likely position in regard to boneless beef exports to the USA arising from recent USA monetary policy; and if he will state the effect of EEC membership on this export market with particular reference to the common external tariff and animal health agreements.

As our boneless beef exports to the USA have been covered by a multilateral US import quota system, the recent US general import surcharge does not apply to them. These exports have been as high in 1971 as in 1970, despite a recent prolonged US dock strike and I expect them to increase in 1972.

I do not foresee EEC membership as likely to affect this trade.
