Vol. 257 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Regional Industrial Development.

70.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the Industrial Development Authority have formulated any plans for regional industrial development; if these plans provide for growth centres; and, if so, if he will state the location of the centres in the midland region.

The Industrial Development Authority is preparing plans for regional industrial development, but pending completion of these plans and their consideration by the Government, it is not possible for me to indicate the position regarding growth centres.

They will not be the growth centres that are recommended in the Buchanan Report, I trust?

No. The Industrial Development Authority are preparing a programme in relation to the eight regions they have considered.

Is there any final decision on the Buchanan Report in respect of the establishment of industry in different areas?

No. The IDA would have been conscious of the Buchanan Report in the preparation of the regional plan.
