Vol. 257 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Housing.

112.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he would state the number of families in accommodation stated to be unfit for human habitation in Dublin city at present; and whether such families were being rehoused.

113.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he would give the number of families with one child on the Dublin housing list-at present; whether any accommodation could be offered by Dublin Corporation to such families at present; and when it was expected that accommodation might be offered to these families.

114.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of families with two children on the waiting list for housing accommodation from Dublin Corporation at present; whether accommodation was offered to such people at present; and whether such proposed accommodation was restricted to particular areas.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 112, 113 and 114 together.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his Question No. 20 of 25th June, 1970, on the subject. The further assessment of housing needs for the period commencing 1st April, 1971 has not yet been carried out. Families are rehoused by Dublin Corporation in accordance with a statutory scheme of letting priorities which includes provision for the re-housing of persons being displaced from unfit dwellings by operations under the Housing Acts. There were 162 such cases on the Corporation's approved waiting list when it was last revised in November 1970. The waiting list is compiled on the basis of the number of persons in a family and does not show children separately, and accordingly details of the number of families with one or two children are not available in my Department. As regards the question of re-housing such small families, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 287 of 28th October, 1971. I am informed by the Corporation that accommodation offered to smaller families is not restricted to any particular area.

115.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether overcrowding is a factor in the eligibility of families for rehousing in Dublin at present.

In common with other housing authorities, Dublin Corporation are under a statutory obligation, when preparing and adopting their building programmes, and making their schemes of letting priorities to have regard to a number of specified objectives, including the elimination of overcrowding.
