Vol. 258 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Atlantic Salmon Fishing.

38.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if this country has decided to implement the recommendations of resolution 504 (1971) (1) on salmon fishing in the Atlantic Ocean, as proposed by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe.

The recommendations of the North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission, referred to in Resolution 504 (1971), have been implemented by the Government. The only section of the resolution not accepted by the Government is section 4 (b), which urges that measures for the protection of salmon be extended to territorial waters. Such an extension would be neither practical nor in the national interest.
