Vol. 258 No. 1

Written Answers. - Telephone Applications.

253.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the total number of applications for telephones at the latest available date; and when it is expected that this backlog will be completed.

There are about 20,500 applications for telephones on hands at present. Six thousand of these are either in course of provision or will be attended to within the next few months. Most of the remaining applications will be dealt with before the end of the year. It is not practicable to give a reliable estimate as to when service will be provided for all the existing applicants.
