Vol. 258 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Killing of Deer.

20.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has received reports of unauthorised killing of deer in the Dublin and Wicklow mountains and if he will state what action is proposed to conserve stocks.

Under existing law, deer are not classified as game but it is intended that they will be accorded protection under pending game and wildlife legislation. Meanwhile, the Department's shooting tenants in the Wicklow region have been specifically asked not to shoot red deer.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say when the bye-laws will be brought in?

The Minister has indicated his intention to introduce this legislation as soon as possible.
