Vol. 258 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Employment.

103.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of new jobs which will be created in the coming financial year in new industrial undertakings or by the extension of existing concerns.

The Industrial Development Authority estimate that in the period in question about 8,000 to 8,500 new jobs will be created as a result of new industrial undertakings and extensions of existing concerns.

104.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what plans are in hand for the establishment of new industries or the extension of existing industries in the Dublin area; and their employment potential in the realm of new jobs.

There are at present nine projects which have been approved by the Industrial Development Authority for the Dublin area, seven of which are extensions to existing industries. These projects are expected to provide about 440 new jobs—320 male and 120 female—when at full production.

In addition, eight projects, approved under the Small Industries Programme, are expected to provide about 40 new jobs, mostly for men.

There are two other proposals under consideration by the authority, involving a total employment potential of 375.
