Vol. 258 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Forestry Land Prices.

21.

asked the Minister for Lands if he intends to increase the price paid for land for afforestation in view of the increase in prices generally.

A new system of land valuation for forestry purposes has been in operation for the past few years. The price paid is determined by reference both to the potentialities of the land for timber production and costs likely to be incurred in developing the land for forestry purposes. The new system which involves an increase in the general level of price paid for forestry land is achieving the objective of improving the intake of land for forestry purposes and no change is contemplated at this stage.
