Vol. 259 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Authority Demands.

3.

asked the Minister for Health if the statement issued by him last week means that the increased demand by health authorities will not exceed 30p in the £ for any rating authority.

On the basis of statements of expenditure of health boards in the year ending 31st March, 1972 and estimated expenditure for the year 1972-73 the demand on the rates, would in the absence of special relief, have involved on average, a rates increase of 64p in the £ in the year 1972-73. This would consist of 16p to cover the increases in health costs in the current financial year and 48p to cover the further increases in the coming year. The additional grants being made available from the Vote for my Department are calculated to limit the rate increase in any area to 30p.

Questions Nos. 4 and 5 postponed.
