Vol. 259 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Monaghan ESB Supply.

9.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when ESB supply will be made available to the new houses at Leonsgarve, Carrickmacross. County Monaghan.

I am informed by the ESB that Leonsgarve is in the board's Killarney/Magheracloon rural area. In accordance with the current plans for the completion of the rural electrification programme by 1975, advertisements will be published in the local papers within the next few months inviting unsupplied residents in the area to apply for connection. Those who apply for connection and accept the terms quoted will be supplied during the coming summer.

Is the Minister aware that the houses mentioned in this question adjoin the town of Carrickmacross and that while they may not be in the urban area they are attached to the end of the town and that it is a dreadful state of affairs if a young person, having built a house complete with central heating which needs electricity to operate it, must wait until the end of 1973 or the beginning of 1974 to have a supply of electricity laid on? Does the Minister deny that the ESB will not instal supplies before 1973?

The people to whom the Deputy refers will be supplied during the coming summer if the terms offered are acceptable.

Before putting down the question I had a reply from the ESB which stated it would not be possible to quote those people until the autumn of 1973.

And I have given the Deputy an improved and a better answer, that it will be done during the coming summer if the terms are acceptable.

That is fair enough.
