Vol. 259 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Television Reception.

59.

andMr. L. Burke asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will give details of representations made to him and directly to the broadcasting authority in respect of the unsatisfactory television reception in the Glengarriff area, County Cork.

The improvement of television reception is primarily a matter for RTE.

According to my Department's records, written representations about television reception in the area mentioned by the Deputy were received on seven occasions from 1968 to date. On each occasion, inquiry was made of RTE seeking information in the matter for the purpose of replying to the representations. I recently received a deputation in the matter, and have written to the authority emphasising the importance which people in the area concerned attach to being given adequate reception of RTE television programmes.

I have no knowledge of representations made directly to the Broadcasting Authority in the matter.
