Vol. 259 No. 15

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Swimming Pool.

79.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether he has received any further submission from Dún Laoghaire Borough Corporation, concerning the proposed swimming pool grant to the borough, with specific reference to his views already conveyed to the corporation concerning the proposed site at Monkstown, Dún Laoghaire; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Dún Laoghaire Corporation, having reconsidered their initial proposal to provide a new swimming pool at Williamstown in the light of objections to that site, submitted a proposal to locate it at the existing baths in Dún Laoghaire. They also indicated they would be prepared to give a grant towards a pool at Monkstown. I advised the corporation on 18th February that I considered the Monkstown proposal was worthy of priority consideration and that a proposal from them to assist it financially on the lines indicated by them would be awaited. I further advised them that I had no objection to their proceeding with plans for replacement of the existing baths and that I would be prepared to give the most sympathetic consideration possible to the release of capital for that project at a later stage. I have not heard from the corporation since.
