Vol. 260 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIE River Cruisers.

7.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if CIE cruisers will operate out of Athlone in the summer.

The arrangements for the operation of the CIE Shannon cruises are a matter for the board. I am informed by CIE that their programme of cruises for the coming season is at present under consideration.

Can the Minister say whether they intend operating out of Athlone? Surely they know that at this stage?

The Deputy can take it that they will. I have spoken to the board about the matter.

Will the Minister also speak to the ESB to ensure that there is water?

That is another day's work.

There is no point in saying that they will navigate unless there is water.

If navigation permits they will be operated out of Athlone. It is not my responsibility but, so far as CIE continuing their tour operations and their Shannon cruise operations out of Athlone is concerned, I have spoken to the board about this matter and I am assured that these operations will continue.

Will the Minister speak to the ESB to ensure that there is water?
