Vol. 260 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Supply Adulteration.

5.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the remarks of the head of the Mastitis Research Laboratory (name supplied) regarding the high incidence of antibiotic adulteration in the public milk supply in Leinster; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen the report of the survey to which I presume the Deputy's question relates.

Arising out of a report submitted to me by the Food Advisory Committee, I have had under consideration in conjunction with the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the public health and other implications of the use of therapeutic antibiotics in veterinary practice and animal husbandry. When these and any other necessary consultations have been completed, I shall consider what action should be taken in the public health interest.
