asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state the allocation which will be made to Drogheda Harbour Board in the financial year 1972-73 for dredging and improvement works.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drogheda Harbour Work.
A State grant of up to 50 per cent of the cost, subject to a maximum of £175,000, is being paid towards the Drogheda harbour improvement scheme. Up to the end of 1971-72 about £159,000 has been paid out of the grant and I understand from the Drogheda Harbour Commissioners that they estimate that they will require a further £6,000 towards the cost of the scheme during the year 1972-73.
I have also approved of borrowing of up to £90,000 by the Harbour Commissioners for the harbour scheme from the Local Loans Fund. The harbour commissioners have received £60,000 to date and estimate that they will take up the balance of £30,000 in 1972-73.
They have to make up the balance of how much?
They have received £60,000 to date. The balance on the loan aspect is £30,000.
And the grant is £6,000?
Yes.
That is not a lot.
I have said that £159,000 has been made available.
What exactly is meant by "improvement works"?
I do not know the details. They are all set out——
I hope that putting sticks here and there on the strand is not the amount of the works.
I will give the Deputy the details in the form of a letter.
