Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leinster Milk Report.

41.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if his attention has been drawn to a report (details supplied) to the effect that certain quantities of milk produced for dairies in Leinster contain a very high level of bacteria; if he will order an inquiry into this report; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As regards the report referred to, it is the responsibility of the local sanitary authorities to ensure that milk intended for human consumption is produced under the conditions prescribed under the milk and dairies legislation and does not contain bacteria at a level in excess of that prescribed. I am having inquiries made to ascertain whether the local sanitary authorities are performing in full the functions devolving on them under this legislation.
