Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Rodent Control.

5.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the alarming increase in the number of rats in and around the city of Dublin; and what measures he proposes to take in the matter.

I understand from the Eastern Health Board that there is no indication of any significant increase in the number of rats in and around the city of Dublin.

The Eastern Health Board carry out a regular programme of rodent deinfestation. Dumps and sewers are treated continuously and, in addition, special action is taken whenever necessary, either as a result of complaints received or whenever an infested site comes to the notice of the board. Builders have also been circulated by the board recommending that sites for development should be treated for rodent infestation and the board have offered to make a service available, if necessary.

If the Deputy has any evidence of an increase in a particular area, he could advise the Eastern Health Board and communicate with me at the same time.
