Vol. 260 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Psychiatric Nurses Agreement.

11.

asked the Minister for Health whether the agreement reached during the recent strike by psychiatric nurses has been implemented; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I stated in reply to a similar question on 22nd February last, the implementation of the agreed terms for the settlement of the strike is primarily a matter for each health board.

My approval has been granted in every case in which it has been requested to any of the terms of settlement.

Would the Minister not agree that when an agreement which was made regarding the terms of settlement of a dispute has not been implemented he should intervene if necessary to ensure that the agreement is honoured on behalf of the hospitals and thus prevent a further strike?

These promotions have been confirmed in all hospitals but three. They are about to be confirmed in the others. So far as I know there will not be any problem.

Can the Minister tell us the three hospitals in which promotions have been advocated? Further, will he tell us if the CEOs met since this agreement was reached?

The Deputy had better ask a detailed question about that.

The Deputy is more aware of the facts than the Minister. I can tell the Minister that the CEOs have never met. The recommendations have not been implemented and the CEOs are doing nothing about it.

The Deputy cannot make a speech on this matter. I am calling Question No. 12.
