Vol. 260 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Estate.

21.

asked the Minister for Lands the grounds on which the Land Commission decided not to acquire the Higgins estate, Glenmore, Blessington, County Kildare; if he is aware that needy smallholders in the area are prepared to pay high rents for this holding; and if he will ensure that a thorough investigation of the area is made.

The determination of lands to be acquired is a matter reserved exclusively to the Lay Commissioners.

I understand that the Land Commission had this 91 acre estate under review for some time but, having regard to the particular personal circumstances of the present elderly occupier, they decided on sympathetic grounds not to proceed further in the matter.

I am informed that there are only two applicants for the lands a local man and his son, who between them own three acres of land.
